Solution Architect

Key Responsibilities:
Solution architecture and design:
• Design and develop end-to-end solution architectures aligned to business and enterprise architecture strategies.
• Define architecture blueprints, solution designs, and integration patterns across multiple systems.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned to cloud-native principles.
• Drive adoption of microservices architecture, API-driven design, and event-driven patterns.

Modernisation and innovation:
• Lead and contribute to application modernisation initiatives, including legacy system transformation.
• Identify opportunities for innovation, optimisation, and automation across business processes and system landscapes.
• Drive adoption of containerisation platforms and cloud-native architectures.
• Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies aligned to organisational strategy.

Technology leadership:
• Provide technical leadership to development teams across Java and .NET technology stacks.
• Guide engineering teams on architecture principles, best practices, and design standards.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to enable CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and platform engineering practices.

Platform and infrastructure alignment:
• Design solutions leveraging:
o Containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
o OpenShift platform
o Cloud-native architectures (public/private/hybrid cloud)
• Ensure solutions are optimised for performance, scalability, and high availability.
• Align solutions with enterprise infrastructure and platform standards.

Stakeholder engagement:
• Engage with business, delivery, and technical stakeholders to define solution requirements and architecture direction.
• Facilitate architecture design sessions and technical workshops.
• Provide clear communication of complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

Governance and compliance:
• Ensure adherence to enterprise architecture governance, standards, and policies.
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure alignment across projects.
• Maintain architecture documentation, including solution diagrams, design specifications, and technical standards.

Qualifications and experience:
Qualification:
• Relevant Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field; or relevant Diploma with at least 10 years of software development experience and at least 5 years proven experience as a Solutions Architect.
• Relevant Architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF, Cloud Certifications – AWS/Azure)

Experience:
• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Software Developer
• Minimum 5+ years’ solid experience in Solutions Architecture
• Proven experience in enterprise-scale application design and delivery
• Demonstrated experience in modernisation and transformation initiatives
• Experience working across multiple concurrent projects

Required technical skills and competencies:
Core technical skills:
• Strong experience in:
o Java technology stack
o .NET technology stack
• Extensive experience with:
o OpenShift platform
o Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
o Cloud-native architectures
• Strong experience with:
o Microservices architecture
o API design and integration
o DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

Architecture capability:
• End-to-end solution design
• Integration architecture (REST, SOAP, messaging patterns)
• Data architecture (high-level)
• Security and performance considerations
• Infrastructure and platform alignment

Key deliverables:
• Solution architecture designs and blueprints
• Technical design documentation
• Architecture review outputs and governance artefacts
• Integration and system design specifications
• Contribution to modernisation roadmaps
• Alignment with enterprise architecture frameworks

Advantageous experience:
• Experience in public sector / enterprise environments
• Experience with digital transformation programmes
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
• Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms
• Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks (TOGAF)
